PROCESS FOR PREPARING ALKALIMETAL SILICATE SOLUTION IN A STATIC SOLUTION

Method for mfg. a clear soln. of alkali metal silicate having a wt. ratio SiO2/alkali metal oxide(R2O) up to 2.5 is described as comprising attacking crystalline SiO2 of mean particle size 0.1 2 mm, in which the aq. soln. of an alkali metal hydroxide is passed through a bed of silica formed without mechanical stirring in a tubular vertical reactor and supplied from the top with SiO2 and alkali soln. The soln. is used in the detergent industry and in mfr. of zeolite A(Na aluminosilicate) both requiring soln. of SiO2/R2O ratio of 2.0 - 2.5. Method requires soln. of SiO2/R2O ratio of prior method. To avoid the need for grinding quartz stands can be used instead of fine powders.
