The dental surgery handpiece (1) has a disc-shaped rotary tool (3), turning on the handpiece axis (2) or one parallel to it (2a). The tool is enclosed by a guard (4) on the handpiece and with a section (5) left open to form the working area. The guard as a whole is adjustable on the handpiece so as to vary the position of this working area, and is lockable in each position in which it is set. It can be in the form of a ring from which a segment has been cut out.
