PURPOSE:To make a tool chip storage in small size and reduce the drive power for carrying in and out in an automatic tool replacement system for a machine tool by incorporating an arrangement whereby only the edge module of each modular tool can be replaced. CONSTITUTION:In this automatic tool replacement system, a tool storage 26, tool carry-in and -out device 29, tool assembly/disassembly device 30 and machine tool 21 are controlled in a lump by a CPU, and the processing sequence is decided according to the machining schedule. A modular tool A specified from the tool storage 26 is carried out by the tool carry-in and -out device 29, and assembled by the tool assembly/disassembly device 30, and then mounted on the machine tool 27 by an automatic tool replacement device 33. further, the tool which has been fitted on a machine tool 21 is demounted and handed over to the tool assembly/disassembly device 30, where the tool is disassembled into bitter modules a-c, and only unnecessary modules are carried into the tool storage 26 by the tool carry-in and -out device 29. |
