PURPOSE:To prevent a reprinted character from overlapping with the preceding character or the following character and to prevent a character pitch from being enlarged, by a method wherein the width of a character to be corrected and the width of a character to be reprinted are compared with each other, and when the character widths are not equal, all of a group of characters following the character to be corrected are corrected for each group of characters including the character to be corrected. CONSTITUTION:It is discriminated by a data-discriminating means 1 whether the input data (a) are correction data or printing data, and when the input data are correction data, it is discriminated by a reprinting-discriminating means 7 whether or not the data include a character to be reprinted at a correcting position. When the presence of the character to be reprinted is confirmed, a controlling means 6 causes a comparing means 8 to compare the width of a character to be corrected stored in a storage means 5 with the width of the character to be reprinted, inputs the data, and drives a carriage-driving means 2, a ribbon-selecting means 3 and a printing-correcting means 4, thereby performing correcting according to the widths of the character to be corrected and the character to be reprinted. Accordingly, the character corrected can be prevented from overlapping with the preceding or following character, and the character pitch can be prevented from being enlarged. |
