METHOD FOR CONTROLLING POSITION OF HEAT INSULATING BODY FOR SHORT SIDE OF SLAB IN CONTINUOUS CASTING MACHINE

PURPOSE:To obtain a good heat insulating effect and to provide lessened manpower and improved reliability by controlling the position of heat insulating bodies for the short sides of a slab in such a manner that the space between the end faces of the slab and the heat insulating bodies attains the min. space adequate for the heat insulation. CONSTITUTION:The heat insulating body 7 for the short side of the slab which is equipped to a cutter table of a continuous casting machine and moves in the transverse direction of the slag is made to stand by in the prescribed retreat position. The side end face of the continuously conveyed slab S is then detected continuously or at every specified interval by a means 15 for detecting the end face position of the slab installed on the upper stream side of the cutter table. The position detection signal e1 for the end face of the slab and the space set signal e2 set with a setter 25 for the spacing of the heat insulating body are fed to a control device 26 for the position of the heat insulating body to control the position of the body 7 in such a manner that the space between the end face of the slab and the heat insulating body attains the preset min. space adequate for the heat insulation.
