CHARGE TRANSFER DEVICE AND ITS DRIVING METHOD

PURPOSE:To realize a broad dynamic range, high-speed transfer and remarkably low smear level by providing a transfer gate having transmission delay characteristics on a transfer channel and applying a voltage pulse to the end. CONSTITUTION:A read pulse 25 from a vertical shift register 11 is applied to a vertical read gate line 12-1 and a vertical transfer pulse 26 is applied to a vertical transfer gate 14, then a signal charge is read to a vertical transfer channel from photoelectric converting element 10. In finishing the read at a time t3 and bringing the vertical transfer gate pulse 26 to an L level by a high through rate since the vertical transfer gate 14 has a proper resistivity, the applied pulse is being propagated gradually remotely as t5 and t6. An electric field sending the signal charge further exists at the end of pulse transfer, the signal charge is transferred as the pulse is being propagated to transfer remained electric charges, allowing to improve the transfer efficiency.
