In the method according to the invention for monitoring the cutting force of a machine tool, the cutting force of the individual tools is determined by measuring the power consumption of a servomotor (1, 2) which effects the infeed of the respective tool. The measured signal for the cutting force which is obtained is compared in a cutting-force monitoring device (5) with a predetermined digital limit-value signal for the cutting force. The output signals generated by the cutting-force monitoring device (5) on the basis of the comparison operations are input into an NC unit which carries out a corresponding control operation on the main drive (11) or servomotors (1, 2) of the machine tool. <IMAGE>
