PURPOSE:To reproduce a stable still image having neither fluctuations nor a flicker from a video signal by arranging the 1st pickup device and the 2nd pickup device almost symmetrically about the center point of the disk surface of a discoid recording medium and detecting and reproducing signals of the same field on the disk by alternating the 1st and the 2nd pickup devices. CONSTITUTION:Connections of the 1st and the 2nd optical heads 1 and 2 with a display circuit are switched by a switching device 10 every time the disk 5 makes a half turn, i.e. at intervals of one field to detect and reproduce video signals of invariably the same field. Thus, the video signals of invariably the same field are detected by the 1st and the 2nd optical heads 1 and 2 and the switching device 10 switches the connections with the display circuit to an optical head which detects the field at intervals of one field, so a still picture which has neither deviation not a flicker is reproduced even when video signals are recorded as a motion picture.
