The emphasis of this additional application is on the fact that a potential difference between two different metals, which is a function of ambient humidity, can be achieved not only by activation of an electrolyte-impregnated and then dried absorbent coating material, but also by means of a film of moisture which is established between two electrolyte reservoirs, for example as a condensate water bridge, and which permits migration of electric charge carriers between the reservoirs. When adopting this principle, the reservoir covers are expediently used not only to prevent unwanted drying-out, but also directly as electrodes in a suitable metal combination which are in conductive contact with the moisture film. A particularly interesting application example is constituted by the dew-point hygrometer according to the invention which, in contrast to known systems does not require a metal mirror or optical monitoring of the initial moisture precipitation while the mirror is cooled. Further application areas are found in the registration of humidity on surfaces of materials or in layers close to the surface of moderately hard porous solids; this measuring technique is particularly significant with regard to physical aspects within the construction industry.
