The invention relates to a method of discharging bulk materials from a hopper, wherein the interruption of the supply of materials from the interior of the hopper to a central chamber is effected by switching off the pneumatic ventilation of the hopper bottom and/or the pneumatic conveying grooves and by shutting off the ventilation line of the central chamber. A method of this type allows a considerable simplification of the hopper due to dispensing with costly discharge apparatus and at the same time prevents undesirable compacting of the material when the supply of material is interrupted.
