PURPOSE:To contrive so as to disappear a colored color of the titled cell in lighting off by deciding a color-tone of the cell in lighting off of the display cell on the basis of the product of a thickness of the liquid crystal material and a refractive anisotropy. CONSTITUTION:The transparent electrodes 3, 4 are formed on the upper and down sides of the liquid crystal cell material 1 through an insulating layer 2. three different colored transparent layers 4a-4c are formed on the electrode 4 respectively and polarizing plates 7, 8 are provided on outer sides of glass substrates 5, 6. The relationship between (d)XDELTAn and the color tone is decided on the basis of the relationship between a permeability (t) of the liquid cell and the product of (d)XDELTAn of the thickness (d) of the liquid cell material 1 and its refractive an isotropy DELTAn whereby combination of colors among a yellow-green-blue, a yellow-orange-red and a blue-green-violet. By said selection of said combination of colors, the color disappears in lighting-off and makes an improvement of the quality of the display. |
