The aim of this invention is to create a large energy potential using the atmospheric pressure and to constantly maintain this by means of a water circuit. This is achieved in that water within the area of equilibrium existing between the atmosphere and a column of water is conveyed upwards in stages by way of a plurality of reservoirs and admitted into a high-level tank, and after this has been filled is drained from this, being led back into the bottom reservoir for drive purposes. This system is not confined to natural water deposits and is operative provided that water has been poured into the bottom reservoir until all reservoirs and the high-level tank are thereby gradually filled up by the pumps.
