Sails and airfoils of sea, land and air propulsion means can be aerodynamically trimmed more efficiently by the invention without substantial additional amounts of material and costs. By turning of the mast or mast parts, sail battens, mostly continuous, are pressed by means of lever action from the positive air-pressure side against the sail and are bent in the process so that the desired sail profile is obtained in a very stable form. Here, it is possible to use a specific mechanism or a mechanism which is variable, even during use, so that sail-batten bending and consequently the sail profile can be adapted at any time to the respective requirements. The system can also be designed as a retrofit system; at least individual rig parts of conventional systems can continue to be used. It is decisive that the sail-batten bending and thus the sail profile can also be produced without wind force. The system can be used in both single-layer and multi-layer sails, in groove-guided sails and in sails with mast pockets, in wings for hang gliders and the like. The conversion or the re-designing of a rig with this sail-batten trimming system usually does not infringe the class regulations of the sailing-boat and hang-glider classes, provided that sails with continuous battens are permitted in the first place.
