The device has a compressed air hose (16) made of high-strength flexible material which is arranged inside an otherwise tubeless tyre (12) and is seated on the wheel rim (20) and fills the cavity (18) inside the tyre (12) but only partially, and is inflated to a pressure which constitutes a multiple of the pressure prevailing in the interior of the cavity (18). A multi-path valve (22) which is attached to the outside of the wheel rim (20) permits the compressed air in the compressed air hose to be let out, for example in order to inflate the tyre or in order to control various safety features. <IMAGE>
