In prior load handling apparatuses with fixed counter weights, the force moments acting on the apparatuses changes if the position and weight of the load changes. However the force-moment due to the counterweight does no change. This problem is solved by providing sensors (108, 112) (77) to sense a change in the force-moment acting on an apparatus and an actuator (50) (67, 68) responsive to the sensed condition to adjust a counterweight (64) to provide a stable condition. This solution is applied to a fork-lift truck (10) having a tiltable mast (15). |
