PURPOSE:To improve the acoustic coupling of a liquid acoustic medium with a window material and to improve the acoustic transmittance and to prevent occurrence of a multiecho and, at the same time, obtain a scanner which is excellent in durability, by using a liquid acoustic medium which has an antiseptic action and whose acoustic characteristic is made coincident with that of the window material. CONSTITUTION:A liquid tank 2 is formed in the shape of a bag and a window material 3 made of, for example, polyethylene, whose upper edge section is joined with the bottom section of a scanner main body 1, is filled with a liquid acoustic medium 4 which can adjust the value of acoustic impedance. Then an ultrasonic probe 5 holding an ultrasonic vibrator 6 at one end is put in the liquid tank 2 and transmission and reception of ultrasonic waves are performed by changing the direction of the probe 5 by means of a mechanical driving means 7. When a mixed liquid of water and ethylene glycol in a volume ratio of 5:4 is used as the liquid acoustic medium 4, the acoustic coupling between the medium 4 and window material 3 can be made more excellent and, at the same time, the antiseptic effect of the constituting section of the mechanical driving means 7 can be exerted. |
