PURPOSE:To improve efficiency and save a space by applying fluorescent coating on a front inner wall of tube side surfaces of a fluorescent lamp and depositing a reflecting coating on a rear inner wall. CONSTITUTION:Fluorescent coating 2 is applied on a front inner wall of a glass tube 1, and a reflecting film 3 is applied on a rear inner wall. Hereby, ultraviolet light reflected by the coating 3 is not substantially attenuated, and hence the ultraviolet light reaching the front coating 2 is substantially double for contributing to effective illumination. When a fluorescent lamp arranged as such is employed for back illumination of an liquid crystal panel 4, forward emission efficiency is improved, and hence a required amount of light can be yielded with a little power consumption. Therefore, the captioned fluorescent lamp is effective for the back illumination of the liquid crystal panel not operated at high temperature. |
