PURPOSE:To lighten the burden at the time of inputting a special code, etc., and to improve operability by displaying definitely representative candidates of each group previously classified in sequence when a variety of special codes, etc., are inputted and operated. CONSTITUTION:In terms of a character processor, the special code, which cannot be directly inputted through the keyboard of an operating part 1, and KANJI (Chinese character) are classified into plural groups at every type and radical, respectively. With the depression of a special code key, the 1st candidate group stored on a separate group character information table 10 is displayed first, ad an operation is made in the selection standby state. Then, when a conversion key is depressed, eight characters on a special code/character information table 11 corresponding to the 2nd candidate group on a group character information table 12 are adopted as a candidate. The input operation of the character, etc., which cannot be directly inputted through the keyboard is made at two stages: One is the definite display of the representative candidate group at every group, and the other is the display of the candidate group in the same group. Therefore the burden at input can be lightened and operability can be improved.
