PURPOSE:To prevent double recording and to perform high-speed continuous recording by reproducing recorded signals while moving a magnetic head reverse ly and successively from a final track position in one direction when a magnetic sheet is loaded. CONSTITUTION:When a stepping motor 117 is driven clockwise, a gear B116 rotates clockwise and a gear A110 rotates counterclockwise. The rotation is transmitted from a cam 109 to the projection 104a of a slider 104, so that the slider 104 mounting the magnetic head 112 moves along guide shafts A102 and B103. When the stepping motor 117 is reversed, the magnetic head moves in the opposite direction. Annular tracks are formed on the magnetic sheet for recording and reproduction to perform continuous recording and reproduction in one direction and signals are reproduced successively while the magnetic head is moved in the opposite direction of the final track position in said direction to detect tracks which are already recorded, a track following a track where a signal is reproduced firstly in the recording and reproducing direction is regarded as a recording start track. Consequently, double recording is prevented and high-speed continuous recording is possible, and the cost is reduced.
