PURPOSE:To manufacture efficiently high Mn, low Fe and low P slag by charging manganese ore, silica, silicomanganese slag, calcined lime and coke into an electric furnace, specifying the amount of the coke basing on the amount of the manganese ore, and regulating the basicity of slag produced to a specified value. CONSTITUTION:When manganese ore, silica, silicomanganese slag, calcined lime and coke are charged into an electric furnace as starting materials to manufacture slag freed of Fe and P, the amount of the coke is regulated to 12-14% of the amount of the manganese ore so that the amount of Mn in slag produced is increased, and flowability is provided to the slag produced by regulating the basicity to <=1.1. Thus, high Mn, low Fe and low P slag is exactly manufactured.
