PURPOSE:To obtain a large-sized single crystal of Y3Fe5O12 having a desired direction, size and high quality which is ferromagnetic substance in a short period of time by using a BaO-B2O3 system flux to grow the single crystal of Y3Fe5O12 and by drawing it up by a flux-drawing up method. CONSTITUTION:An excess of Fe2O3 is added to Y2O3 and Fe2O3 corresponding to the composition ratio of Y3Fe5O12 to make a raw material in which total Fe2O3 ratio e.g. Fe2O3/Y3Fe5O12=1:5; 40pts.wt. raw material and 60pts.wt. flux composed of BaCO3 and B2O3, wherein BaO/B2O3=3/1, are mixed, put in a platinum crucible to make a liquid. Next, a seed crystal is hung right above the surface of the said liquid, kept at about 1,250 deg.C for 24hr, thereafter cooled gradually, brought into contact with said surface rotating the seed crystal at about 1,100 deg.C, grown in about 1.0mm/day rate and drawn up to obtain the single crystal of Y3Fe5O12.
