PURPOSE:To provide a thermal transfer medium capable of transferring images with high quality without any effects of the surface of a transfer paper, by providing a layer comprising a highly volatile organic solvent between a base film and a heat-fusible ink layer. CONSTITUTION:The thermal transfer medium comprised the base film 4, the volatile layer 2 and the heat-fusible ink layer 1. The volatile layer 2 comprises a highly volatile organic solvent 3 such as an aliphatic hydrocarbon, e.g., n- heptane, a halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon, e.g., dichloroethane, and an aromatic hydrocarbon, e.g., toluene, mixed into an easily heat-fusible binder consisting of a plastic and/or a wax. An ink in the ink layer 1 is melted or softened by the heat generated by a thermal head, and by the volatilization of the solvent 3, the ink is separated from the base film 4, and is directly transferred onto the transfer paper, whereby favorable image quality can be obtained. |
