DRIVING METHOD FOR SOLID-STATE IMAGE PICKUP DEVICE

PURPOSE:To reduce a smear of an element when a signal charge is generated on a photoelectric transducer by impressing a prescribed voltage on a read out gate and transferring a signal charge leaked to a vertical transfer part to a photoelectric converting part. CONSTITUTION:The signal charge that is stored at a photodiode 11 is transferred to a transfer channel 13 by impressing the pulse of one line per one horizontal period on a read-out gate 12 by a read-out shift resister 16. Next, it is transferred toward a vertical direction by a pulse from a transfer shift resister 17 and is transferred to a horizontal CCD14. Although an electric potential of the read-out gate 12 and that of transfer gate 18 are both kept at a low level in a normal state, the electric potential under the read-out gate 12 is kept higher than that of the transfer gate 18 to transfer the leaked signal charge under the transfer gate 18 of the transfer channel 13. After that, the signal charge is read out following a prescribed time and the signal charge under the transfer gate 18 is transferred to the transfer channel 13.
