PURPOSE:To provide a gas burner of which size is small, input amount of gas fuel is high and a transferring of flame is superior by a method wherein a space in a main body of burner to which gas fuel is supplied is divided into two sections and the gas fuel is always supplied to one of the divided spaces to cause an ignited condition. CONSTITUTION:When a premixing type burner 1 is set to its ignited condition, a flow rate control valve 10 is opened, gas fuel is supplied to a primary space 3a and then injected from flame holes 9a. An igniter means is arranged near the flame holes 9a, the gas fuel injected through the flame holes 9a and the combustion air near the flame holes 9a are mixed to each other and then ignited with pilot flame. Then, the flow rate control valve 11 is opened, the gas fuel is guided into the second space 3b and injected from the flame holes 9b, mixed with the combustion air and the main combustion is performed under the transferred flame from the original flame at the flame holes 9a. When the combustion of the burner 1 is to be terminated, the flow rate control valve 11 is closed and the pilot combustion or a low input combustion is ignited while the flow rate control valve 10 being opened.
