PURPOSE:To execute switching between glare shielding and non-shielding with a time delay in the vertical direction of a reflector and to reduce the change of a backward visual field through the reflector by changing at least one out of the film thickness of transparent electrodes, the film thickness of an orientation film and the gap of a liquid crystal layer continuously in the vertical direction of the reflector. CONSTITUTION:The gap of the liquid crystal layer 7 is reduced in the descendent direction and the film thickness of transparent electrodes 5, 9 are increased in descendent direction. The lead wires of the electrodes 5, 9 are drawn from the low resistance side, i.e. the lower position in the shown drawing, of the electrodes 5, 9. When a voltage is impressed between the electrodes 5, 9, the liquid transmittivity of the liquid crystal layer 7 is reduced. The changing speed of its drop is proportional to the film thickness of the electrodes 5, 9. Therefore, the light transmittivity of the liquid crystal layer 7 is successively reduced in the ascending direction. Namely, the glare shielding operation of side mirrors is successively attained from the lower side of the upper side.
