PURPOSE:To shorten the defrosting time during the heating operation of an air conditioner by a method wherein air blowing-off port is brought into fully closed state by shifting a variable damper, which is made by some portion of a stabilizer, and an electric heater is put into energized state during the defrosting operation of the air conditioner. CONSTITUTION:When the defrosting operation is performed, a variable damper 9 is shifted so as to fully close an air blowing-off port 5, resulting in sending the air through the opening of a stabilizer 8 back to the windward side of a heat exchanger 2 so as to pass through the heat exchanger 2 again. Consequently, the heat exchange action (cooling capacity) at the heat exchanger 2 is increased by means of being drafted. When an electric heater 10 for auxiliary heating is energized under the state just mentioned above, the air cooled by the heat exchanger 2 is to be heated, resulting in enabling to delay or stop, depending upon the capacity of the electric heater, the lowering of the temperature of the air within the main body of an indoor unit and ensuring the cooling capacity of the air conditioner. As a result, the discharging heat at an outdoor heat exchanger in cooling operation or the defrosting is also accelerated. |
