PURPOSE:To reduce the coat removing length of an optical fiber core as short as possible by welding and connecting a glass fiber to an optical fiber at first, and on the basis of the property of the optical fiber such that the strength of the optical fiber is weakened by heating at a position near the connection part, bending and cutting off the optical fiber damaged by the heating together with the glass fiber. CONSTITUTION:The coat removing length of the optical fiber core is set up to <=10mm and the optical fiber is held by a clamp 9. On the other hand, the glass fiber 8 is cut off by several ten mm and the cut glass fiber 8 is held by a clamp 9'. The longitudinal axis of the optical fiber is matched with that of the glass fiber. The axial matching accuracy may be about several mum. Then, the optical fiber is welded with the glass fiber by discharge heating between a pair of electrodes 11, 11'. Then, the clamps 9, 9' are unclamped, the optical fiber is fixed by an optical fiber pressing plate 4 by using the glass fiber as a guide and a flaw 7 is formed on the surface of the optical fiber by a knife 3. Subsequently, the optical fiber is bent by a plate spring 2 and then cut off. |
