PURPOSE:To eliminate the labor for setting and make the temperature near the floor of a room and the temperature distribution in the room favorable by a method wherein the ratio of the draft area of a heat exchanger, through which the air is led to an upper blowing- off port, to the draft area of the heat exchanger, through which the air is led to a lower blowing-off port, is automatically changed based upon the signal from a temperature detecting means. CONSTITUTION:When the cooling operation is intended, a cooling to/from heating changing-over means switch 9 is set on 'cooling operation' side, causing to rotate a motor 14 and a rotating disc 15 by means of a control device 11 upon receipt of the signal from a temperature detecting means 8 so as to shift a connecting rod 16 upward in order to automatically control to pivot a pivoting damper 10 in the direction to reduce the draft area of a heat exchanger 7, through which the air is led to a lower blowing-off port 3. In this case, the temperature of the air discharged through the lower blowing-off port 3 is a little higher than that of the air discharged through an upper blowing-off port, resulting in preventing the temperature on the floor from becoming too much cold and consequently enabling to perform the comfortable cooling operation. On the other hand, when the heating operation is intended, the cooling to/from heating changing-over means switch 9 is set on 'heating operation' side, the controlling is performed in a direction opposite to the cooling operation. In this case, the temperature of the air discharged through the lower blowing-off port 3 is a little higher than that of the air discharged through the upper blowing-off port, resulting in raising the temperature at the feet of room occupants and consequently enabling to perform the comfortable heating operation.
