<p>In an arrangement of a starting and protecting apparatus structural unit (21) for a hermetically encapsulated electric motorcompressor unit (10) to the outside of which a pressure tube (15) is connected, the starting apparatus (23, 27) comprises a PTC resistor (23) and the protecting apparatus comprises a protective switch (24) responsive to excessive temperature of the electric motor-compressor unit (10) to interrupt the motor current. In order to ensure that, on a starting attempt with the rotor of the electric motor blocked, e.g. because of an excessively high counterpressure on the output side of the compressor, operation of the compressor will start as soon as possible after blocking has been eliminated, the PTC resistor (23) is thermally connected to the pressure tube (15) and in series with the protecting apparatus (24).
