PURPOSE:To obtain the titled inexpensive yarn having improved water resistance, by dissolving a specific polyvinyl alcohol, boric acid (salt), and an acid in water to give a spinning stock solution, spinning the stock solution from a spinneret into a coagulating bath, and drawing the yarn. CONSTITUTION:(A) A polyvinyl alcohol having 1,200-3,000 average polymerization degree and >=96% degree of saponification, (B) 0.5-5wt% based on the polyvinyl alcohol of boric acid (salt), and (C) an acid such as acetic acid in an amount to make pH of a spinning stock solution after dissolution at <=5 are dissolved in water to give an aqueous solution having 8-14wt% concentration of the component A. Then, the aqueous solution as the spinning stock solution is extruded from a spinneret having pore diameters with 0.02-0.04mm average diameter into a coagulating bath consisting of a highly concentrated salt aqueous solution containing an alkali, having dehydrating ability, in a 10--60% bath draft range to form yarn. Then, the yarn is drawn at >=10 times to give the aimed yarn.
