PURPOSE:A fibrous base material which is formed by integrating a short-cut fiber-interlaced layer with a filament fiber-interlaced layer is filled with a polyurethane elastomer in its vacent spaces and coated with the same on its short-cut fiber layer. After coagulation, the filament-interlaced layer is removed to give a synthetic leather of high dimensional stability. CONSTITUTION:A short-cut fiber-interlaced layer 3 is integrated with a filament- interlaced layer 2, e.g., by needle-punching to form a fibrous base material 1. Then, the vacant spaces in the fibrous base material 1 are filled with a solution of a polyurethane elastomer in a water-miscible organic solvent such as dimethylformamide. Then, the solution is coagulation in a non-solvent maining consisting water and the short-cut fiber-interlaced layer 3 is coated with a solution of a polyurethane elastomer in a water-miscible organic solvent on its surface. The coating layer is coagulated in a non-solvent mainly consisting of water and dried to form a microporous layer 7 and the filament-interlaced layer 2 is removed to give the objective synthetic leather having a microporous layer with high dimensional stability.
