PURPOSE:To both prevent rust of a gear and improve its fine view, by coating a surface of the gear for a bicycle with a high hardness thin film of metal nitride or metal carbide and the like. CONSTITUTION:This gear for a bicycle is prepared by coating the surface of a rough material metal with a high hardness thin film of titanium nitride and silicon carbide or the like by the method of ion plating. Consequently, the thin film improves surface hardness of the gear and its wearing resistance while comes to enable a surface of the gear to be colored in golden yellow. Further the gear can maintain its beautiful gloss for a long time because of good durability of the thin film.
