PURPOSE:To improve an electromagnetic conversion characteristic and running stability by incorporating pulverous carbon black having the average single particle size in a specific range into a magnetic layer of a magnetic recording medium and carbon black having the average single particle size coarser than the size of the magnetic layer of the specific range into a black coat layer thereof. CONSTITUTION:The coated film type magnetic layer formed by dispersing the carbon black having 10-30mmu average single particle size together with ferromagnetic powder into a binder is provided on one side of a nonmagnetic base. The back coat layer formed by dispersing the carbon black having 200-1,000mmu average single particle size into the binder is provided on the surface of the base on the side opposite from the magnetic layer. The magnetic recording tape, etc. having the excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristic and running stability are thus obtd. Without sticking of the magnetic layer and back coat layer of the magnetic recording medium.
