PURPOSE:To reduce the memory capacity without practically lowering image quality by making data storage by using a different method for at least one of four memories and the same method for the remaining memories. CONSTITUTION:Data conversion parts 8-Y, 8-M, 8-C and 8-BK are provided for compressing image data inputted from an image processing part 6 for each of the colors Y, M, C and BK, and supplying them to respective memories M1-M4. A different compression system is used for the data conversion part 8-BK from among these data conversion parts. That is, the totality of bits outputted from a latch circuit 10 are inputted into an averaging circuit 11 and to a comparator 12 and the 6-bit average value data PC1-6 and the one-block pixel data are converted into 1-bit binary valued data PD1-9 and stored in the memory M4. The capacity of the memory M4 can be reduced in this manner to 10 bits.
