PURPOSE:To recover valuable metal by reduction efficiently at low cost by blowing directly upward a reducing gas generated by the incomplete combustion of liquid hydrocarbon material against the surface of a molten oxide containing the valuable metal. CONSTITUTION:The molten oxide 6 containing the valuable metal (e.g. Zn) is put into a jacket 1. The liquid hydrocarbon material 2 and air 3 are fed into a double pipe burner 4 blowing downward and are subjected to incomplete combustion to generate the reducing gas, which is blown obliquely against the surface of the molten oxide 6. As a result, Zn fume 7 is generated by reduction, which is burnt by oxidation at the outlet and recovered in the form of Zn powder 8.
