PURPOSE:To expand an address space efficiently by forming a high-speed memory storing a conversion table in a CPU when a pointer part in a word stored in a main storage is small. CONSTITUTION:The conversion table 2 is stored in the high-speed memory 3. A word consisting of an 8-bit tag and a 24-bit pointer part is stored in a memory register 4 and a word consisting of an 8-bit tag and a 32-bit pointer part is stored in a register 5. In addition, an address register constituted of 32 bits is formed. A conversion circuit 6 converts the word stored in the memory register 5 and writes the converted word on the memory register 4 or converts the word stored in the register 4 and writes the converted word on the register 5. In addition, the circuit 6 writes the word stored on the register 5 in the table 2 of the memory 3 or reads out the word from the table 2 and writes the word on the register 5. Even if the pointer part is narrow and the whole main storage can not be accessed when the tag part and the pointer part are to be stored in the work, the range to be addressed can be efficiently expanded.
