PURPOSE:To obtain the title emulsion excellent in adsorptivity of a negatively charged substance and suitable as an adhesive or the like, by polymerizing a vinyl monomer in the presence of a cationic acrylic copolymer containing a polymerizable quat. ammonium salt. CONSTITUTION:A cationic copolymer is prepared which comprises a quat. ammonium nitrogen-containing polymerizable quat. ammonium salt of the formula (wherein R and R' are each a 1-20C alkyl, R'' is a 1-20C alkyl, a 6-15C aromatic group of the like group and R''' is a 2-6C ethylene bond-containing aliphatic hydrocarbon), e.g, 2-hydroxy-3-methacryloxypropyltrimethyl-ammonium chloride) and a monomer selected from among (meth)-acrylate, styrene, acrylonitrile, butadiene, vinyl acetate, etc. A vinyl monomer (e.g, vinyl acetate) is polymerized in the presence of this copolymer to obtain the title emulsion.
