PURPOSE:To obtain the title polymer excellent in rubber elasticity and useful for a one-component or two-component elastic sealant, by converting the termi nal groups of a product obtained by reacting a specified polyether or the like with a silicon hydride compound into different hydrolyzable groups. CONSTITUTION:A polyether or polyester containing at least one, on the average, bonding unit of formulas I-III (wherein R<1> is a 1-20C bivalent organic group) and containing at least 70%, based on the total terminal groups,terminal groups of formulas IV (wherein R<2> is H or a 1-20C monovalent organic group, R<3> is R<1> and b is 0 or 1) at a molecular terminal is reacted with a silicon hydride compound of formula V (wherein R<4> is a 1-12C monovalent hydrocarbon, X is a halogen and a is 0 or 2) at 30-150 deg.C in the presence of a platinum catalyst to obtain a polyether or polyester having at least one silicon group of formula VI on the terminal. The product is reacted with an alcohol, a phenol, an alkoxide or the like to convert X groups into Y groups to obtain a polyether or polyester of formula VII (wherein Y is an alkoxy, acyloxy, ketoximate, amide or the like).
