A procedure to reduce the escape of heat from a chimney (17) situated in a building (10), whereby a sleeve (19) of insulating material is pressed down into the chimney opening (18), preferably level with the building's roof ridging (11). In addition a U-shaped pipe connector (21) is mounted in the insulation sleeve (19) so that one end of the connector connects with the chimney's interior or with a flue gas conduit inside it, and the other end (21a) is situated lower than the uppermost part of the pipe curve's inner radius.
