The compact clutch with controlled disengagement, in particular for vehicle compressors, comprises an annular piston 20, which can move axially in a chamber, and which has a head surface 25 facing a bell 12 which is able to rotate and is connected to the shaft 2 of the compressor 1 carrying the clutch 3, this bell acting under the action of elastic clamping means 18, on a set of clutch discs 14 rotationally connected when they are clamped, a conductor shaft 5 leaving the clutch 3 and carrying the members for coupling to a motor for actuating the compressor 1 and a driven element 8 coupled to the shaft 2 of the compressor 1 in which the annular piston 2 can freely rotate in its own seat 7 and acts, when it is actuated, by its head on the bell 12, counter to the elastic means, without interposed intermediate members. <IMAGE>
