PURPOSE:To provide an agent having strong carcinostatic activity and low side effects, by using a polysaccharide produced by Spirulina subsalsa (a kind of algae) as an active component. CONSTITUTION:A polysaccharide lambda-spirulinan and kappa-spirulinan produced by Spirulina subsalsa and at least containing rhamnose, fucose, xylose, galactose, glucose, mannose, uronic acid and N-acetyl-saccharide as constituent components, is used as a component of the objective carcinostatic agent. The agent is effective to various carcinoma,and is administered preferably by parenteral administration (e.g. peritoneal infusion, intravenous injection, intramuscular injection, etc.) or transintestinal adminstration (e.g. rectal infusion). Does: 20-0.01mg/kg, preferably 2-0.1mg/kg daily. It can be administered for a long period with intervals of 1-5 days.
