PURPOSE:To inhibit the combustion by ignition of the material to be heated and to prevent the damage to a furnace, in heating titanium in a pusher-type continuous furnace, by putting the material to be heated on a shoe so as to remove it with the shoe. CONSTITUTION:The titanium or titanium alloy 2 is charged into the pusher-type continuous furnace 1 by means of a pusher, which is removed on a skid line 3 so as to be subjected to heat treatment. At this time, the material 2 to be heated is placed on a shoe 4 composed of flat plate 5 with a proper thickness so that is does not come into direct contact with skid rails. When the material 2 to be heated rolls easily and has unstable shape, the flat plate 5 is provided with plural roll stoppers 6 on its surface. In this way, the material 2 to be heated is prevented from causing combustion by ignition.
