PURPOSE:To produce a polyether polyol containing primary hydroxyl group at the terminal and liquid at normal temperature, by reacting a polyoxypropylene polyol with tetrahydrofuran and ethylene oxide in the presence of an acidic catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A polyether polyol having a terminal primary hydroxyl group content of >=70% and a flow point of <=0 deg.C can be produced by polymerizing (A) 10-90(wt)% polyoxypropylene polyol (polyoxypropylene ether of a low- molecular compound having >=2 active hydrogen atoms, e.g. ethylene glycol), (B) 5-80% tetrahydrofuran and (C) 0.5-45% ethylene oxide in the presence of (D) an acidic catalyst (preferably a combination of a Lewis acid and a protonic acid) at 10-60 deg.C. The weight ratio of the component B to the component C is 95:5-50:50, and that of the component D to the component B is (0.01-30):100.
