Sheet metal duct with a rectangular flow cross-section for transporting gases, especially heated gases, comprising wall sheets which at the duct edges project beyond the circumference of the duct in the same direction of rotation or do not project beyond it and reinforcements which are arranged on the said wall sheets transversely to the direction of flow, above the circumference of the duct and with a certain spacing distance and which are composed of profile-section supports and fastening elements, the profile-section supports reinforcing a wall sheet being arranged staggered by half the spacing distance in relation to the profile-section supports, which are assigned to the wall sheets placed transversely to them, and the fastening elements being end plates or cover plates made of sheet metal or flat steel, which plates connect the profile sections to the wall sheet by means of weld seams which take the form of wedge seams. <IMAGE>
