A bracket-type support for a glass plate 1 consists of a light metal extruded profile with a vertical baseplate 2 from which two horizontal arms 4, 5 extend which receive the glass plate 1 between them. The lower arm 4, seen in cross-section, is far longer than the upper arm 5, but less than half as wide as the glass plate, such that the centre of gravity S of the glass plate lies before the outer edge 6 of the lower arm 4. Near to this outer edge 6, the surface of the lower arm 4 is provided with a longitudinal groove 8 in which a rubber cord 9 is inserted. Due to its own weight, the glass plate 1 is pressed so firmly, on the one hand, against the underside 10 of the upper arm 5 and, on the other hand, against the rubber cord 9 that a surprisingly firm, non-positive fastening of the glass plate 1 is produced. To facilitate the introduction of the glass plate 1 between the arms 4, 5, the spacing a between the arms 4, 5 on the baseplate 2 is so large that the glass plate can be pushed obliquely upwards between the arms 4, 5 without coming into contact with the rubber cord 9. <IMAGE>
