PURPOSE:To obtain the heat treating furnace capable of efficient heat treatment by providing a portable type furnace casing, plural heat treating bases and a common underground flue by which the above bases communicate. CONSTITUTION:After preheating the material to be heat-treated in a group of heat treating bases 1, the portable type furnace casing having furnace doors free of opening and shutting at both ends is removed to another group of heat treating bases 2, which is subjected to heating at once. On the other hand, another portable type of furnace casing is put into the bases 1 after the removal of the above furnace casing, into which the exhaust gas attendant upon the heating in the above bases 2 is introduced through a common underground flue 4 by which the bases 1 communicate with the bases 2 so that the remaining heat can be utilized. By such construction, the execution of efficient heat treatment having high thermal efficiency and workability is made possible.
