PURPOSE:To reduce power consumption at the standby time of a floppy disc device and to expand the service life of a light emitting element by supplying a power supply for the light emitting element of an index hole detection circuit only when a disc is loaded. CONSTITUTION:When a disc 1 is not loaded, since an output signal V1 is at a high level, a transistor (TR)13 for power switch is turned off and no current flows to the light emitting element 16 of the index hole detection circuit. Thus, a photodetector 17 of the index hole detection circuit is turned off and an output signal V2 of the index hole detection circuit is at a high level. When the disc 1 is loaded to the floppy disc 2 in this case, the signal of a disc loading detection circuit goes to high level and the output signal V1 of an inverter circuit 12 goes to a low level. Thus, the TR13 for power switching is turned on.
