SHEET FEED AND REGISTRATION METHOD AND SYSTEM

To feed a document (18) to a registered position on a platen (12) the sheet is first fed by a vacuum transport system (16, 24, 26) over the platen to a point at which its leading edge is beyond a sensor (46). The transport system is then reversed and the sheet is directed back towards the platen to its registration point (e.g. 14) under the control of a servo system (30) which employs a signal from the sensor indicating the sheet leaving the sensor and predetermined input data to select the registration position on the platen.
