To deposit a textile workpiece (75) in a desired location (on a further workpiece (78)) the workpiece (75) is placed on a retractable tray (14) above the desired location and covered with a flexible sheet (25). As the tray (14) is retracted, the sheet (25) prevents the workpiece (75) following the tray (14) and allows the workpiece (75) to move down into the desired location.
