PURPOSE:To use effectively a disc and to reduce the access time at recording/ reproduction by adopting a flexible alternate sector system assigning an alternate sector in response to occurrence of an error sector. CONSTITUTION:A data d1 is fed to a buffer memory BM1 from the host at one rotation of a disc, an E.C.C is added to a spiral recording track (n) at the 2nd rotation of the disc and the result is recorded continuously onto sectors n<1>-n<30> as a recording W1. To apply error check to the recorded sectors, a tracking actuator is driven similarly at a sector n<31>, one track jump is applied, the data is read on the n-n<30> sectors and the cycle enters the R1. In this case, the recovered data by using the E.C.C or the like is compared with the original data d1 stored in a buffer BM1, and when a sector has an error, the data of the said sector is recorded again on a sector (n+1)<29> after the cycle R2, a data d3 transferred from sectors (n+1)<30>-(n+2)<27> to the buffer BM1 is recorded as a recording W3.
